Understanding SBD Issues
Common Problems Opening SBD Files
Microsoft Office Accounting Isn't There
Double-clicking your SBD file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open SBD File". When this happens, it is commonly due to Microsoft Office Accounting missing in %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the SBD file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens SBD files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Obsolete Version of Microsoft Office Accounting
In other instances, your Office Accounting Company Data File file version may not be supported by your version of Microsoft Office Accounting. Download the latest Microsoft Office Accounting version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your SBD file and clicking "Properties".
Summary: Not having the right Microsoft Office Accounting version on your computer can cause problems opening SBD files.
Other SBD File Opening Causes
Errors opening Office Accounting Company Data File files can still occur even with the latest Microsoft Office Accounting software installed on your computer. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening SBD files. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for SBD
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry SBD description
- Invalid installation of a SBD-associated program (eg. Microsoft Office Accounting)
- Your SBD file is corrupted (issues with your Office Accounting Company Data File file itself)
- Your SBD is infected with malware
- Device drivers for SBD-related hardware are out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Office Accounting Company Data File files
