Sources of SCX Problems

Frequent SCX Opening Issues

XnView MP Not Present

If you attempt to load your SCX file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open SCX Files". If so, it typically means that you don't have XnView MP installed for %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your SCX file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your SCX, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

Incorrect XnView MP Version

In other instances, your ColoRIX Bitmap Graphic File file version may not be supported by your version of XnView MP. If you do not have the proper version XnView MP (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. The primary cause of this problem is that your ColoRIX Bitmap Graphic File file was created by a different (newer) version of XnView MP than what's installed.

Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of SCX file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).

Summary: Not having the right XnView MP version on your computer can cause problems opening SCX files.

Additional SCX Opening Issues

You can still experience errors opening SCX files even with the latest version of XnView MP installed on your PC. Other SCX opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These issues include:

  • Windows Registry SCX file paths that are incorrect
  • Corruption of the SCX file description inside the Registry
  • Defective install of a SCX program, such as XnView MP
  • Your SCX file is corrupted (issues with your ColoRIX Bitmap Graphic File file itself)
  • The SCX is infected with a virus
  • Hardware associated with SCX has outdated drivers
  • Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the ColoRIX Bitmap Graphic File file
