SHD File Complications
Typical SHD Opening Challenges
Microsoft Windows is Not Installed
When you double-click your SHD file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If so, it typically means that you don't have Microsoft Windows installed for %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your SHD because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your SHD file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Obsolete Version of Microsoft Windows
Sometimes your installed version of Microsoft Windows won't support your Windows Print Job Shadow File file. Visit the Microsoft Corporation website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Microsoft Windows. Most of the time your Windows Print Job Shadow File file was created by a newer Microsoft Windows than what you have installed.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of SHD file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Summary: Not having the right Microsoft Windows version on your computer can cause problems opening SHD files.
Additional SHD Opening Issues
Even with the correct version of Microsoft Windows installed, you can still experience difficulties opening SHDs. If you're still experiencing problems opening SHD files, there could be other computer problems. Issues that aren't software-related:
- SHD file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry SHD description
- Corrupt install of Microsoft Windows or other SHD-related program
- Your SHD file is corrupted (issues with your Windows Print Job Shadow File file itself)
- Your SHD is infected with malware
- Device drivers for SHD-related hardware are out-of-date
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Windows Print Job Shadow File file
