SKIN File Complications
Troubles Opening SKIN Files
Microsoft Visual Studio is Not Installed
You attempt to load your SKIN file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The SKIN File Extension". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Microsoft Visual Studio for %%os%% installed on your computer. The typical path of opening your SKIN with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens SKIN files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Microsoft Visual Studio Requires Update
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a ASP.NET Skin File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Download the latest Microsoft Visual Studio version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. Your ASP.NET Skin File file was probably created by a newer release of Microsoft Visual Studio than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Right-clicking on your SKIN, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening SKIN files are due to having the wrong version of Microsoft Visual Studio installed.
Other SKIN File Opening Causes
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Microsoft Visual Studio will resolve your issue. Other SKIN opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Invalid SKIN file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Corruption of the SKIN file description inside the Registry
- Microsoft Visual Studio or another SKIN application experienced a flawed installation
- Your SKIN can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your SKIN
- Device drivers for SKIN-related hardware are out-of-date
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your ASP.NET Skin File file successfully
