Troubleshooting Problems Opening SNIPPET Files
Frequent SNIPPET Opening Issues
Microsoft Visual Studio Removed
When trying to open your SNIPPET file, you get the error "Can't Open SNIPPET File Type". Customarily, this means that Microsoft Visual Studio is not installed on %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the SNIPPET file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your SNIPPET, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Microsoft Visual Studio Requires Update
In other instances, your Visual Studio IntelliSense Code Snippet file version may not be supported by your version of Microsoft Visual Studio. You will need to download a newer version of Microsoft Visual Studio if you don't have the right version. Your Visual Studio IntelliSense Code Snippet file was probably created by a newer release of Microsoft Visual Studio than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the SNIPPET file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Regardless, most of the SNIPPET file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Microsoft Visual Studio installed.
Other SNIPPET File Opening Causes
You can still experience errors opening SNIPPET files even with the latest version of Microsoft Visual Studio installed on your PC. If you are still having problems opening SNIPPET files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Additional factors include:
- SNIPPET file type Registry entries are wrong
- Deletion of the SNIPPET file description from the Registry by mistake
- Microsoft Visual Studio or another SNIPPET application experienced a flawed installation
- Your SNIPPET can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- SNIPPET file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Hardware associated with SNIPPET has outdated drivers
- Windows cannot load your Visual Studio IntelliSense Code Snippet file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
