Troubleshooting Problems Opening SOB Files
Troubles Opening SOB Files
Apache OpenOffice Disappeared
You attempt to load your SOB file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The SOB File Extension". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Apache OpenOffice for %%os%% installed on your computer. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the SOB file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: Another SOB-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Obsolete Version of Apache OpenOffice
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a OpenOffice.org Impress Bimap Styles File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Installing the latest version of Apache OpenOffice from Apache Software Foundation is recommended. The primary cause of this problem is that your OpenOffice.org Impress Bimap Styles File file was created by a different (newer) version of Apache OpenOffice than what's installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your SOB, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening SOB files are due to having the wrong version of Apache OpenOffice installed.
Other SOB File Opening Causes
Even with the correct version of Apache OpenOffice installed, you can still experience difficulties opening SOBs. If you're still experiencing problems opening SOB files, there could be other computer problems. Problems unrelated to software:
- Invalid SOB file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Corruption of the SOB file description inside the Registry
- Apache OpenOffice or another SOB application experienced a flawed installation
- Your SOB can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your SOB
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your SOB file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the OpenOffice.org Impress Bimap Styles File format
