Troubleshooting Problems Opening SSQ Files
Typical SSQ Opening Challenges
Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator Disappeared
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open SSQ Files" when trying to open your SSQ. Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator isn't installed on your PC. Your operating system cannot associate your SSQ with Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens SSQ files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Obsolete Version of Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator
In other instances, your ODBC Script File file version may not be supported by your version of Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator. If you've got the wrong version of Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator installed, you'll need to install the correct version. The primary cause of this problem is that your ODBC Script File file was created by a different (newer) version of Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator than what's installed.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the SSQ file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening SSQ files are due to having the wrong version of Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator installed.
Other Causes of SSQ File Opening Problems
Assuming you have the right Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening SSQ files. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening SSQs. Issues that aren't software-related:
- SSQ file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry SSQ description
- Partial installation of Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator that did not fully complete
- File corruption affecting your SSQ file
- Your SSQ is infected with malware
- Hardware associated with SSQ has outdated drivers
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the ODBC Script File format
