Understanding STP Issues


Frequent STP Opening Issues

CATIA Disappeared

Double-clicking your STP file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open STP File". Usually, this is because you do not have CATIA for %%os%% installed. Your operating system cannot associate your STP with CATIA, so double-clicking the file won't work.


Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your STP, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").


Incorrect CATIA Version

In other instances, your STEP 3D CAD File file version may not be supported by your version of CATIA. Visit the Dassault Systèmes website to download (or purchase) the latest version of CATIA. This issue mainly occurs when your STEP 3D CAD File file was created by a newer version of CATIA than you have on your PC.


Tip: If you right-click on your STP file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
