Troubleshoot STS Files
Issues Opening STS Files
DuoS DSEMU Disappeared
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open STS Files" when trying to open your STS. If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have DuoS DSEMU for %%os%% installed on your computer. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your STS file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Wrong Version of DuoS DSEMU is Installed
Your DuoS DSEMU Saved State File file is incompatible with DuoS DSEMU because you might have the wrong version installed. Installing the latest version of DuoS DSEMU from Unknown Developer is recommended. This problem is predominately due to having a DuoS DSEMU Saved State File file version that was created by a newer version of DuoS DSEMU than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the STS file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening STS files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Associated Difficulties Loading STS Files
You can still experience errors opening STS files even with the latest version of DuoS DSEMU installed on your PC. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening STS files. Issues that aren't software-related:
- File references in the Windows Registry for STS are wrong
- The STS file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the STS format
- The STS itself is corrupted
- Your STS has adversely impacted by malware
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your STS file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Windows cannot load your DuoS DSEMU Saved State File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
