Understanding STY Issues

Issues Opening STY Files

Style Fixer Removed

You attempt to load your STY file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The STY File Extension". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Style Fixer isn't installed on your PC. Your operating system cannot associate your STY with Style Fixer, so double-clicking the file won't work.

Tip: When another STY application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.

Style Fixer Requires Update

In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Yamaha/Korg Keyboard Style file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Installing the latest version of Style Fixer from Jørgen Sørensen / Jososoft is recommended. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.

Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the STY file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.

Regardless, most of the STY file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Style Fixer installed.

Additional STY Opening Issues

Even with the correct version of Style Fixer installed, you can still experience difficulties opening STYs. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening STYs. These issues include:

  • Windows Registry STY file paths that are incorrect
  • Deletion of the STY file description from the Registry by mistake
  • Defective install of a STY program, such as Style Fixer
  • STY file corruption
  • Your STY is infected with malware
  • Hardware related to STYs has device driver corruption
  • Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Yamaha/Korg Keyboard Style file
