TESTRUNCONFIG Troubleshooting
Common TESTRUNCONFIG Opening Problems
Microsoft Visual Studio Not Present
When you double-click your TESTRUNCONFIG file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have Microsoft Visual Studio for %%os%% installed. The OS won't know what to do with your TESTRUNCONFIG file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens TESTRUNCONFIG files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Obsolete Version of Microsoft Visual Studio
Sometimes your installed version of Microsoft Visual Studio won't support your Microsoft Visual Studio Test Run Configuration File file. If you've got the wrong version of Microsoft Visual Studio installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your TESTRUNCONFIG file and clicking "Properties".
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening TESTRUNCONFIG files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Additional TESTRUNCONFIG Opening Issues
Even with the correct version of Microsoft Visual Studio installed, you can still experience difficulties opening TESTRUNCONFIGs. If you are continuing to have errors with loading TESTRUNCONFIG files, other external issues might be to blame. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Invalid TESTRUNCONFIG file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Deletion of the TESTRUNCONFIG file description from the Registry by mistake
- Partial installation of Microsoft Visual Studio that did not fully complete
- File corruption affecting your TESTRUNCONFIG file
- Your TESTRUNCONFIG has adversely impacted by malware
- Drivers associated with TESTRUNCONFIG software need to be updated
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Microsoft Visual Studio Test Run Configuration File file
