U File Complications

Common Problems Opening U Files

Missing Dragon UnPACKer

When you double-click your U file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to Dragon UnPACKer missing in %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the U file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.

Tip: If you have another software that you know opens U files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.

Wrong Version of Dragon UnPACKer is Installed

Your Unreal Tournament Class Package file is incompatible with Dragon UnPACKer because you might have the wrong version installed. Visit the Open Source website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Dragon UnPACKer. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.

Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your U file and clicking "Properties".

Conclusion: The majority of U file opening issues are due to not having the correct Dragon UnPACKer version installed.

Other U File Opening Causes

Although you might already have Dragon UnPACKer or another U-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Unreal Tournament Class Package files. If you are continuing to have errors with loading U files, other external issues might be to blame. These issues include:

  • File references in the Windows Registry for U are wrong
  • Corruption of the U file description inside the Registry
  • Partial installation of Dragon UnPACKer that did not fully complete
  • U file corruption
  • Your U has adversely impacted by malware
  • Device drivers for U-related hardware are out-of-date
  • Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Unreal Tournament Class Package file successfully
