Troubleshooting Problems Opening U8 Files
Troubles Opening U8 Files
Missing Wiimms SZS Toolset
When trying to open your U8 file, you get the error "Can't Open U8 File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have Wiimms SZS Toolset for %%os%% installed. The typical path of opening your U8 with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: Another U8-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Wiimms SZS Toolset is Out-of-Date
Sometimes your installed version of Wiimms SZS Toolset won't support your Mario Kart Wii Archive File file. If you do not have the proper version Wiimms SZS Toolset (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: If you right-click on your U8 file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Regardless, most of the U8 file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Wiimms SZS Toolset installed.
Other U8 File Issues
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Wiimms SZS Toolset will resolve your issue. Other U8 opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Windows Registry U8 file paths that are incorrect
- Accidental deletion of the description of the U8 file in the Windows registry
- Invalid installation of a U8-associated program (eg. Wiimms SZS Toolset)
- Your U8 file is corrupted (issues with your Mario Kart Wii Archive File file itself)
- Your U8 is infected with malware
- Hardware associated with U8 has outdated drivers
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Mario Kart Wii Archive File file successfully
