Understanding VBD Issues
Issues Opening VBD Files
Microsoft Visual Studio Isn't There
If you attempt to load your VBD file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open VBD Files". Customarily, this means that Microsoft Visual Studio is not installed on %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your VBD file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your VBD file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Microsoft Visual Studio is Out-of-Date
It is possible that your version of Microsoft Visual Studio isn't able to open your Visual Basic ActiveX Document file due to incompatibility. Download the latest Microsoft Visual Studio version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. The primary cause of this problem is that your Visual Basic ActiveX Document file was created by a different (newer) version of Microsoft Visual Studio than what's installed.
Tip: Investigate your VBD file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening VBD files are due to having the wrong version of Microsoft Visual Studio installed.
Additional VBD Opening Issues
Although you might already have Microsoft Visual Studio or another VBD-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Visual Basic ActiveX Document files. Other VBD opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These issues include:
- File references in the Windows Registry for VBD are wrong
- Deletion of the VBD file description from the Registry by mistake
- Partial installation of Microsoft Visual Studio that did not fully complete
- Your VBD can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Your VBD is infected with malware
- Hardware associated with VBD has outdated drivers
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Visual Basic ActiveX Document file
