Understanding VBE Issues
Typical VBE Opening Challenges
Microsoft Visual Studio Removed
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open VBE Files" when trying to open your VBE. Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Microsoft Visual Studio isn't installed on your PC. You won't be able to double-click to open your VBE because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: Another VBE-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Microsoft Visual Studio is Out-of-Date
Sometimes your installed version of Microsoft Visual Studio won't support your VBScript Encoded Script File file. Installing the latest version of Microsoft Visual Studio from Microsoft Corporation is recommended. Your VBScript Encoded Script File file was probably created by a newer release of Microsoft Visual Studio than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Right-clicking on your VBE, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Summary: Not having the right Microsoft Visual Studio version on your computer can cause problems opening VBE files.
