Troubleshooting Problems Opening VBZ Files
Common VBZ Opening Problems
Microsoft Visual Basic is Not Installed
When you double-click your VBZ file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have Microsoft Visual Basic for %%os%% installed. The typical path of opening your VBZ with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens VBZ files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Outdated Microsoft Visual Basic
In other instances, your Visual Basic Project Template file version may not be supported by your version of Microsoft Visual Basic. Installing the latest version of Microsoft Visual Basic from Microsoft Corporation is recommended. Most of the time your Visual Basic Project Template file was created by a newer Microsoft Visual Basic than what you have installed.
Tip: Investigate your VBZ file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening VBZ files are due to having the incorrect version of Microsoft Visual Basic installed on your computer.
Additional VBZ Opening Issues
Even with the correct version of Microsoft Visual Basic installed, you can still experience difficulties opening VBZs. If you're still experiencing problems opening VBZ files, there could be other computer problems. Additional factors include:
- VBZ file type Registry entries are wrong
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry VBZ description
- Partial installation of Microsoft Visual Basic that did not fully complete
- File corruption affecting your VBZ file
- The VBZ is infected with a virus
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your VBZ file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Visual Basic Project Template file successfully
