VC2 File Complications
Common VC2 Opening Problems
Microsoft Visual C++ is Not Installed
When trying to open your VC2 file, you get the error "Can't Open VC2 File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have Microsoft Visual C++ for %%os%% installed. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the VC2 file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you don't have Microsoft Visual C++ installed, and you know of another program to open your VC2 file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Microsoft Visual C++ Requires Update
Sometimes your installed version of Microsoft Visual C++ won't support your Microsoft Visual C File file. You will need to download a newer version of Microsoft Visual C++ if you don't have the right version. This problem is predominately due to having a Microsoft Visual C File file version that was created by a newer version of Microsoft Visual C++ than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Investigate your VC2 file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Conclusion: The majority of VC2 file opening issues are due to not having the correct Microsoft Visual C++ version installed.
Other VC2 File Opening Causes
You can still experience errors opening VC2 files even with the latest version of Microsoft Visual C++ installed on your PC. Other VC2 opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Issues that aren't software-related:
- VC2 file type Registry entries are wrong
- Accidental deletion of the description of the VC2 file in the Windows registry
- Corrupt install of Microsoft Visual C++ or other VC2-related program
- File corruption affecting your VC2 file
- Your VC2 has adversely impacted by malware
