VCP File Complications
Common VCP Opening Problems
Microsoft Visual C++ Not Present
You attempt to load your VCP file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The VCP File Extension". Customarily, this means that Microsoft Visual C++ is not installed on %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your VCP file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: Another VCP-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Incorrect Microsoft Visual C++ Version
It is possible that your version of Microsoft Visual C++ isn't able to open your eMbedded Visual C++ Project File file due to incompatibility. Download the latest Microsoft Visual C++ version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. Your eMbedded Visual C++ Project File file was probably created by a newer release of Microsoft Visual C++ than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Investigate your VCP file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Regardless, most of the VCP file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Microsoft Visual C++ installed.
Other VCP File Opening Causes
Errors opening eMbedded Visual C++ Project File files can still occur even with the latest Microsoft Visual C++ software installed on your computer. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening VCP files. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Windows Registry VCP file paths that are incorrect
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry VCP description
- Microsoft Visual C++ or another VCP application experienced a flawed installation
- The VCP itself is corrupted
- Malware-tainted VCP file can't be opened
- Device drivers for VCP-related hardware are out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open eMbedded Visual C++ Project File files
