Sources of VCT Problems
Common VCT Opening Problems
ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop Isn't There
You attempt to load your VCT file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The VCT File Extension". Usually, this is because you do not have ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop for %%os%% installed. The OS won't know what to do with your VCT file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens VCT files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Obsolete Version of ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a IDRISI Vector Image file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Installing the latest version of ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop from ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute) is recommended. Most of the time your IDRISI Vector Image file was created by a newer ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop than what you have installed.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your VCT file and clicking "Properties".
Primarily, problems experienced when opening VCT files are due to having the incorrect version of ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop installed on your computer.
Other VCT File Opening Causes
Although you might already have ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop or another VCT-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening IDRISI Vector Image files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening VCT files. Additional factors include:
- Windows Registry VCT file paths that are incorrect
- Accidental deletion of the description of the VCT file in the Windows registry
- ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop or another VCT application experienced a flawed installation
- Your VCT file is corrupted (issues with your IDRISI Vector Image file itself)
- The VCT is infected with a virus
- Drivers associated with VCT software need to be updated
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the IDRISI Vector Image format
