Understanding VDX Issues
Troubles Opening VDX Files
OmniGraffle Isn't There
When trying to open your VDX file, you get the error "Can't Open VDX File Type". Customarily, this means that OmniGraffle is not installed on %%os%%. The typical path of opening your VDX with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When another VDX application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Wrong Version of OmniGraffle is Installed
It is possible that your version of OmniGraffle isn't able to open your Visio Drawing XML File file due to incompatibility. You will need to download a newer version of OmniGraffle if you don't have the right version. Your Visio Drawing XML File file was probably created by a newer release of OmniGraffle than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Right-clicking on your VDX, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening VDX files are due to having the incorrect version of OmniGraffle installed on your computer.
Other VDX File Opening Causes
Although you might already have OmniGraffle or another VDX-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Visio Drawing XML File files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening VDX files. Problems unrelated to software:
- Windows Registry VDX file paths that are incorrect
- Deletion of the VDX file description from the Registry by mistake
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the VDX format
- Your VDX can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your VDX
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your VDX file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Visio Drawing XML File files
