Understanding VJL Issues
Frequent VJL Opening Issues
Visual J# Removed
When you double-click your VJL file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If so, it typically means that you don't have Visual J# installed for %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your VJL, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Obsolete Version of Visual J#
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Visual J# Source Code file that is unsupported by your installed application version. You will need to download a newer version of Visual J# if you don't have the right version. This problem is predominately due to having a Visual J# Source Code file version that was created by a newer version of Visual J# than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of VJL file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Primarily, problems experienced when opening VJL files are due to having the incorrect version of Visual J# installed on your computer.
Other VJL File Opening Causes
Even with the correct version of Visual J# installed, you can still experience difficulties opening VJLs. If you are still having problems opening VJL files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Problems unrelated to software:
- VJL file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Accidental deletion of the description of the VJL file in the Windows registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the VJL format
- Your VJL can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Malware-tainted VJL file can't be opened
- Drivers associated with VJL software need to be updated
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Visual J# Source Code files
