Sources of VRD Problems
Troubles Opening VRD Files
Microsoft Visio Removed
You attempt to load your VRD file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The VRD File Extension". Usually, this is because you do not have Microsoft Visio for %%os%% installed. You won't be able to double-click to open your VRD because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: Another VRD-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Wrong Version of Microsoft Visio is Installed
In other instances, your Visio Report Definition File file version may not be supported by your version of Microsoft Visio. Visit the Microsoft Corporation website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Microsoft Visio. The primary cause of this problem is that your Visio Report Definition File file was created by a different (newer) version of Microsoft Visio than what's installed.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the VRD file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening VRD files are due to having the incorrect version of Microsoft Visio installed on your computer.
Associated Difficulties Loading VRD Files
Errors opening Visio Report Definition File files can still occur even with the latest Microsoft Visio software installed on your computer. Other VRD opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Invalid VRD file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Corruption of the VRD file description inside the Registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the VRD format
- VRD file corruption
- Past or present virus infection has affected your VRD
- Device drivers for VRD-related hardware are out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Visio Report Definition File files
