Sources of VSHADER Problems
Issues Opening VSHADER Files
Microsoft Visual Studio is Not Installed
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open VSHADER Files" when trying to open your VSHADER. Customarily, this means that Microsoft Visual Studio is not installed on %%os%%. The typical path of opening your VSHADER with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: If you don't have Microsoft Visual Studio installed, and you know of another program to open your VSHADER file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Incorrect Microsoft Visual Studio Version
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Microsoft Visual Studio installed that's incompatible with your Microsoft Visual Studio Data File type. Download the latest Microsoft Visual Studio version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. Your Microsoft Visual Studio Data File file was probably created by a newer release of Microsoft Visual Studio than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of VSHADER file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening VSHADER files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Additional VSHADER Opening Issues
Even with the correct version of Microsoft Visual Studio installed, you can still experience difficulties opening VSHADERs. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening VSHADERs. Additional factors include:
- Invalid VSHADER file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Deletion of the VSHADER file description from the Registry by mistake
- Invalid installation of a VSHADER-associated program (eg. Microsoft Visual Studio)
- File corruption affecting your VSHADER file
- VSHADER file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Drivers associated with VSHADER software need to be updated
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Microsoft Visual Studio Data File file
