Microsoft Visual Studio Removed

When trying to open your VSIXMANIFEST file, you get the error "Can't Open VSIXMANIFEST File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have Microsoft Visual Studio for %%os%% installed. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your VSIXMANIFEST, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

Incorrect Microsoft Visual Studio Version

Sometimes your installed version of Microsoft Visual Studio won't support your VSIX Manifest file. If you've got the wrong version of Microsoft Visual Studio installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Your VSIX Manifest file was probably created by a newer release of Microsoft Visual Studio than what's currently installed your computer.

Tip: Investigate your VSIXMANIFEST file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.

Regardless, most of the VSIXMANIFEST file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Microsoft Visual Studio installed.

Other Causes of VSIXMANIFEST File Opening Problems

Assuming you have the right Microsoft Visual Studio version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening VSIXMANIFEST files. Other VSIXMANIFEST opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Additional factors include:

• File references in the Windows Registry for VSIXMANIFEST are wrong
• Deletion of the VSIXMANIFEST file description from the Registry by mistake
• Corrupt install of Microsoft Visual Studio or other VSIXMANIFEST-related program
• The VSIXMANIFEST itself is corrupted
• Malware-tainted VSIXMANIFEST file can't be opened
• Hardware associated with VSIXMANIFEST has outdated drivers
• Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the VSIX Manifest format
