Troubleshooting Problems Opening VSPX Files
Frequent VSPX Opening Issues
Microsoft Visual Studio Disappeared
You attempt to load your VSPX file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The VSPX File Extension". If so, it typically means that you don't have Microsoft Visual Studio installed for %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your VSPX file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you don't have Microsoft Visual Studio installed, and you know of another program to open your VSPX file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Microsoft Visual Studio Requires Update
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Visual Studio Performance Report File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Download the latest Microsoft Visual Studio version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This problem is predominately due to having a Visual Studio Performance Report File file version that was created by a newer version of Microsoft Visual Studio than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: If you right-click on your VSPX file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Summary: Not having the right Microsoft Visual Studio version on your computer can cause problems opening VSPX files.
Additional VSPX Opening Issues
Although you might already have Microsoft Visual Studio or another VSPX-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Visual Studio Performance Report File files. If you are still having problems opening VSPX files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Additional factors include:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for VSPX
- The VSPX file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Defective install of a VSPX program, such as Microsoft Visual Studio
- Your VSPX file is corrupted (issues with your Visual Studio Performance Report File file itself)
- Your VSPX has adversely impacted by malware
- VSPX-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Visual Studio Performance Report File files
