Troubleshoot VXF Files
Common Problems Opening VXF Files
Microsoft Money Isn't There
You attempt to load your VXF file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The VXF File Extension". Customarily, this means that Microsoft Money is not installed on %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens VXF files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Microsoft Money is Out-of-Date
In other instances, your Microsoft Money Data file version may not be supported by your version of Microsoft Money. Download the latest Microsoft Money version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. The primary cause of this problem is that your Microsoft Money Data file was created by a different (newer) version of Microsoft Money than what's installed.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of VXF file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Conclusion: The majority of VXF file opening issues are due to not having the correct Microsoft Money version installed.
Other Causes of VXF File Opening Problems
Although you might already have Microsoft Money or another VXF-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Microsoft Money Data files. If you are continuing to have errors with loading VXF files, other external issues might be to blame. Problems unrelated to software:
- Windows Registry VXF file paths that are incorrect
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry VXF description
- Microsoft Money or another VXF application experienced a flawed installation
- The VXF itself is corrupted
- VXF file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Hardware related to VXFs has device driver corruption
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Microsoft Money Data file
