Troubleshoot WAF Files
Typical WAF Opening Challenges
Internet Explorer is Not Installed
When you double-click your WAF file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Internet Explorer for %%os%% installed on your computer. The typical path of opening your WAF with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens WAF files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Wrong Version of Internet Explorer is Installed
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Internet Explorer installed that's incompatible with your Internet Explorer For Mac Cache type. If you do not have the proper version Internet Explorer (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This issue mainly occurs when your Internet Explorer For Mac Cache file was created by a newer version of Internet Explorer than you have on your PC.
Tip: Investigate your WAF file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening WAF files are due to having the wrong version of Internet Explorer installed.
Other WAF File Issues
Even with the correct version of Internet Explorer installed, you can still experience difficulties opening WAFs. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening WAFs. These issues include:
- Invalid WAF file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Unintentional removal of the description of the WAF file inside the Windows Registry
- Defective install of a WAF program, such as Internet Explorer
- File corruption affecting your WAF file
- Your WAF has adversely impacted by malware
- Device drivers for WAF-related hardware are out-of-date
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Internet Explorer For Mac Cache file successfully
