Troubles Opening WER Files

Missing Microsoft Notepad

Double-clicking your WER file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open WER File". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Microsoft Notepad isn't installed on your PC. The OS won't know what to do with your WER file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your WER, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

Wrong Version of Microsoft Notepad is Installed

It is possible that your version of Microsoft Notepad isn't able to open your Windows Error Report File file due to incompatibility. Download the latest Microsoft Notepad version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. The primary cause of this problem is that your Windows Error Report File file was created by a different (newer) version of Microsoft Notepad than what's installed.
