WFC File Complications
Common WFC Opening Problems
MacroMates TextMate Not Present
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open WFC Files" when trying to open your WFC. When this happens, it is commonly due to MacroMates TextMate missing in %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the WFC file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: When another WFC application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
MacroMates TextMate is Out-of-Date
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Windows Wireless Network Settings File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. You will need to download a newer version of MacroMates TextMate if you don't have the right version. This problem is predominately due to having a Windows Wireless Network Settings File file version that was created by a newer version of MacroMates TextMate than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of WFC file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Primarily, problems experienced when opening WFC files are due to having the incorrect version of MacroMates TextMate installed on your computer.
Other Causes of WFC File Opening Problems
You can still experience errors opening WFC files even with the latest version of MacroMates TextMate installed on your PC. Other WFC opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Issues that aren't software-related:
- WFC file type Registry entries are wrong
- The WFC file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Corrupt install of MacroMates TextMate or other WFC-related program
- File corruption affecting your WFC file
- Your WFC has adversely impacted by malware
- Device drivers for WFC-related hardware are out-of-date
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Windows Wireless Network Settings File format
