Issues Opening WIDGET Files
Microsoft Visual Studio Isn't There
If you attempt to load your WIDGET file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open WIDGET Files". If so, it typically means that you don't have Microsoft Visual Studio installed for %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your WIDGET with Microsoft Visual Studio, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your WIDGET, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Microsoft Visual Studio Requires Update
In other instances, your Microsoft Windows Mobile Widget file version may not be supported by your version of Microsoft Visual Studio. You will need to download a newer version of Microsoft Visual Studio if you don't have the right version. The primary cause of this problem is that your Microsoft Windows Mobile Widget file was created by a different (newer) version of Microsoft Visual Studio than what's installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your WIDGET, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Regardless, most of the WIDGET file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Microsoft Visual Studio installed.
Other Causes of WIDGET File Opening Problems
Although you might already have Microsoft Visual Studio or another WIDGET-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Microsoft Windows Mobile Widget files. If you are still having problems opening WIDGET files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. These issues include:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for WIDGET
- Corruption of the WIDGET file description inside the Registry
- Corrupt install of Microsoft Visual Studio or other WIDGET-related program
- Your WIDGET can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your WIDGET
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your WIDGET file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Microsoft Windows Mobile Widget file successfully
