Troubleshoot WLF Files
Troubles Opening WLF Files
Microsoft Windows Isn't There
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open WLF Files" when trying to open your WLF. Usually, this is because you do not have Microsoft Windows for %%os%% installed. Your operating system cannot associate your WLF with Microsoft Windows, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: Another WLF-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Incorrect Microsoft Windows Version
Sometimes your installed version of Microsoft Windows won't support your Microsoft Windows 98/Me Dr. Watson Log file. If you've got the wrong version of Microsoft Windows installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is predominately due to having a Microsoft Windows 98/Me Dr. Watson Log file version that was created by a newer version of Microsoft Windows than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Investigate your WLF file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening WLF files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
More Causes of Problems Opening WLFs
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Microsoft Windows will resolve your issue. If you are continuing to have errors with loading WLF files, other external issues might be to blame. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- File references in the Windows Registry for WLF are wrong
