Sources of WSC Problems
Issues Opening WSC Files
Oswan Isn't There
When you double-click your WSC file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have Oswan for %%os%% installed. Your operating system cannot associate your WSC with Oswan, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you don't have Oswan installed, and you know of another program to open your WSC file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Incorrect Oswan Version
Your WonderSwan Color Game ROM file is incompatible with Oswan because you might have the wrong version installed. If you've got the wrong version of Oswan installed, you'll need to install the correct version. The primary cause of this problem is that your WonderSwan Color Game ROM file was created by a different (newer) version of Oswan than what's installed.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of WSC file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Conclusion: The majority of WSC file opening issues are due to not having the correct Oswan version installed.
Other Causes of WSC File Opening Problems
Errors opening WonderSwan Color Game ROM files can still occur even with the latest Oswan software installed on your computer. Other WSC opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Other contributing causes:
- Windows Registry WSC file paths that are incorrect
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry WSC description
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the WSC format
- Your WSC file is corrupted (issues with your WonderSwan Color Game ROM file itself)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your WSC
- Hardware associated with WSC has outdated drivers
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your WonderSwan Color Game ROM file successfully
