WXB Troubleshooting
Common Problems Opening WXB Files
Microsoft Windows Removed
You attempt to load your WXB file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The WXB File Extension". When this happens, it is commonly due to Microsoft Windows missing in %%os%%. The typical path of opening your WXB with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When another WXB application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Microsoft Windows is Out-of-Date
Sometimes your installed version of Microsoft Windows won't support your Windows Miscellaneous File file. If you've got the wrong version of Microsoft Windows installed, you'll need to install the correct version. The primary cause of this problem is that your Windows Miscellaneous File file was created by a different (newer) version of Microsoft Windows than what's installed.
Tip: Investigate your WXB file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening WXB files are due to having the incorrect version of Microsoft Windows installed on your computer.
More Causes of Problems Opening WXBs
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Microsoft Windows will resolve your issue. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening WXBs. Problems unrelated to software:
- WXB file type Registry entries are wrong
- Corruption of the WXB file description inside the Registry
- Defective install of a WXB program, such as Microsoft Windows
- The WXB itself is corrupted
- Malware-tainted WXB file can't be opened
- Hardware associated with WXB has outdated drivers
- Windows cannot load your Windows Miscellaneous File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
