Troubleshoot XPP Files

Issues Opening XPP Files

Microsoft Dynamics AX Not Present

You attempt to load your XPP file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The XPP File Extension". Usually, this is because you do not have Microsoft Dynamics AX for %%os%% installed. You won't be able to double-click to open your XPP because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.

Tip: When another XPP application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.

Microsoft Dynamics AX Requires Update

It is possible that your version of Microsoft Dynamics AX isn't able to open your X++ Source Code File file due to incompatibility. Visit the Microsoft Corporation website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Microsoft Dynamics AX. This issue mainly occurs when your X++ Source Code File file was created by a newer version of Microsoft Dynamics AX than you have on your PC.

Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your XPP file and clicking "Properties".

Regardless, most of the XPP file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Microsoft Dynamics AX installed.

Other XPP File Opening Causes

Although you might already have Microsoft Dynamics AX or another XPP-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening X++ Source Code File files.
