Understanding XXT Issues
Typical XXT Opening Challenges
Microsoft Visual FoxPro Isn't There
You attempt to load your XXT file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The XXT File Extension". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Microsoft Visual FoxPro for %%os%% installed on your computer. Your operating system cannot associate your XXT with Microsoft Visual FoxPro, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your XXT file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Microsoft Visual FoxPro is Out-of-Date
Sometimes your installed version of Microsoft Visual FoxPro won't support your Dynamic Link Library file. If you do not have the proper version Microsoft Visual FoxPro (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This issue mainly occurs when your Dynamic Link Library file was created by a newer version of Microsoft Visual FoxPro than you have on your PC.
Tip: Right-clicking on your XXT, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening XXT files are due to having the incorrect version of Microsoft Visual FoxPro installed on your computer.
Other Causes of XXT File Opening Problems
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Microsoft Visual FoxPro will resolve your issue. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening XXT files. Issues that aren't software-related:
- XXT file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Unintentional removal of the description of the XXT file inside the Windows Registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the XXT format
- File corruption affecting your XXT file
- Your XXT has adversely impacted by malware
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your XXT file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Dynamic Link Library file successfully
