ZTD Troubleshooting
Troubles Opening ZTD Files
Microsoft Zoo Tycoon Disappeared
If you attempt to load your ZTD file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open ZTD Files". Customarily, this means that Microsoft Zoo Tycoon is not installed on %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your ZTD with Microsoft Zoo Tycoon, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: When another ZTD application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Incorrect Microsoft Zoo Tycoon Version
In other instances, your Zoo Tycoon Data Archive file version may not be supported by your version of Microsoft Zoo Tycoon. Installing the latest version of Microsoft Zoo Tycoon from Microsoft Corporation is recommended. Your Zoo Tycoon Data Archive file was probably created by a newer release of Microsoft Zoo Tycoon than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: If you right-click on your ZTD file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening ZTD files are due to having the wrong version of Microsoft Zoo Tycoon installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading ZTD Files
Assuming you have the right Microsoft Zoo Tycoon version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening ZTD files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening ZTD files. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Invalid ZTD file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry ZTD description
- Corrupt install of Microsoft Zoo Tycoon or other ZTD-related program
- Something has caused file corruption of your ZTD
- The ZTD is infected with a virus
- Hardware associated with ZTD has outdated drivers
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Zoo Tycoon Data Archive files
