Sources of A1 Problems
Typical A1 Opening Challenges
Free Pascal Disappeared
When trying to open your A1 file, you get the error "Can't Open A1 File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have Free Pascal for %%os%% installed. The OS won't know what to do with your A1 file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your A1, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Wrong Version of Free Pascal is Installed
Your Free Pascal Archive file is incompatible with Free Pascal because you might have the wrong version installed. If you do not have the proper version Free Pascal (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This issue mainly occurs when your Free Pascal Archive file was created by a newer version of Free Pascal than you have on your PC.
Tip: If you right-click on your A1 file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening A1 files are due to having the wrong version of Free Pascal installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading A1 Files
Although you might already have Free Pascal or another A1-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Free Pascal Archive files. If you are still having problems opening A1 files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Issues that aren't software-related:
- A1 file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Unintentional removal of the description of the A1 file inside the Windows Registry
- Corrupt install of Free Pascal or other A1-related program
- Something has caused file corruption of your A1
- The A1 is infected with a virus
- Hardware related to A1s has device driver corruption
- Windows cannot load your Free Pascal Archive file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
