Sources of ACD Problems
Issues Opening ACD Files
ACID XPress is Not Installed
When you double-click your ACD file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If so, it typically means that you don't have ACID XPress installed for %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: Another ACD-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Wrong Version of ACID XPress is Installed
Your ACID Project File file is incompatible with ACID XPress because you might have the wrong version installed. Visit the Sony website to download (or purchase) the latest version of ACID XPress. The primary cause of this problem is that your ACID Project File file was created by a different (newer) version of ACID XPress than what's installed.
Tip: If you right-click on your ACD file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Conclusion: The majority of ACD file opening issues are due to not having the correct ACID XPress version installed.
More Causes of Problems Opening ACDs
You can still experience errors opening ACD files even with the latest version of ACID XPress installed on your PC. If you are still having problems opening ACD files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Additional factors include:
- Windows Registry ACD file paths that are incorrect
- Deletion of the ACD file description from the Registry by mistake
- ACID XPress or another ACD application experienced a flawed installation
- Your ACD file is corrupted (issues with your ACID Project File file itself)
- The ACD is infected with a virus
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your ACD file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open ACID Project File files
