Troubleshoot AD3 Files
Common AD3 Opening Problems
SoX Disappeared
When you double-click your AD3 file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If so, it typically means that you don't have SoX installed for %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your AD3 with SoX, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you don't have SoX installed, and you know of another program to open your AD3 file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Obsolete Version of SoX
It is possible that your version of SoX isn't able to open your ADPCM 3-bit Compressed Voice file due to incompatibility. If you do not have the proper version SoX (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: If you right-click on your AD3 file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening AD3 files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Associated Difficulties Loading AD3 Files
Even with the correct version of SoX installed, you can still experience difficulties opening AD3s. If you are continuing to have errors with loading AD3 files, other external issues might be to blame. Other contributing causes:
- AD3 file type Registry entries are wrong
- Corruption of the AD3 file description inside the Registry
- SoX or another AD3 application experienced a flawed installation
- AD3 file corruption
- Your AD3 has adversely impacted by malware
- Hardware related to AD3s has device driver corruption
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the ADPCM 3-bit Compressed Voice format
