Sources of ADA Problems

Issues Opening ADA Files

Notepad++ Disappeared

You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open ADA Files" when trying to open your ADA. If so, it typically means that you don't have Notepad++ installed for %%os%%. The typical path of opening your ADA with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.

Tip: Another ADA-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.

Incorrect Notepad++ Version

Your Ada Source Code file is incompatible with Notepad++ because you might have the wrong version installed. Visit the Don Ho website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Notepad++. The primary cause of this problem is that your Ada Source Code file was created by a different (newer) version of Notepad++ than what's installed.

Tip: If you right-click on your ADA file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.

Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening ADA files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.

Other ADA File Issues

Errors opening Ada Source Code files can still occur even with the latest Notepad++ software installed on your computer. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening ADA files. These issues include:

  • File references in the Windows Registry for ADA are wrong
  • Corruption of the ADA file description inside the Registry
  • Invalid installation of a ADA-associated program (eg. Notepad++)
  • File corruption affecting your ADA file
  • Past or present virus infection has affected your ADA
  • Device drivers of the hardware associated with your ADA file are corrupt or out-of-date
  • Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Ada Source Code file successfully
