Sources of ADK Problems
Typical ADK Opening Challenges
OS/2 is Not Installed
You attempt to load your ADK file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The ADK File Extension". When this happens, it is commonly due to OS/2 missing in %%os%%. The typical path of opening your ADK with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: If you don't have OS/2 installed, and you know of another program to open your ADK file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Outdated OS/2
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a OS/2 Saved SKF Format file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you've got the wrong version of OS/2 installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your ADK file and clicking "Properties".
Conclusion: The majority of ADK file opening issues are due to not having the correct OS/2 version installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading ADK Files
Errors opening OS/2 Saved SKF Format files can still occur even with the latest OS/2 software installed on your computer. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening ADK files. Additional factors include:
- ADK file type Registry entries are wrong
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry ADK description
- OS/2 or another ADK application experienced a flawed installation
- File corruption affecting your ADK file
- ADK file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Drivers associated with ADK software need to be updated
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your OS/2 Saved SKF Format file successfully
