Troubleshooting Problems Opening AIA Files
Common Problems Opening AIA Files
MIT App Inventor Removed
You attempt to load your AIA file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The AIA File Extension". If so, it typically means that you don't have MIT App Inventor installed for %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the AIA file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: Another AIA-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Outdated MIT App Inventor
Your App Inventor Project file is incompatible with MIT App Inventor because you might have the wrong version installed. If you've got the wrong version of MIT App Inventor installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Your App Inventor Project file was probably created by a newer release of MIT App Inventor than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the AIA file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening AIA files are due to having the wrong version of MIT App Inventor installed.
Additional AIA Opening Issues
Errors opening App Inventor Project files can still occur even with the latest MIT App Inventor software installed on your computer. Other AIA opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Additional factors include:
- AIA file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Unintentional removal of the description of the AIA file inside the Windows Registry
- Invalid installation of a AIA-associated program (eg. MIT App Inventor)
- Something has caused file corruption of your AIA
- The AIA is infected with a virus
- Hardware related to AIAs has device driver corruption
- Windows cannot load your App Inventor Project file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
