Typical AQM Opening Challenges
Mobile Atlas Creator Removed
Double-clicking your AQM file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open AQM File". If so, it typically means that you don't have Mobile Atlas Creator installed for %%os%%. The typical path of opening your AQM with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: Another AQM-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Outdated Mobile Atlas Creator
Sometimes your installed version of Mobile Atlas Creator won't support your AlpineQuest Map File file. Installing the latest version of Mobile Atlas Creator from Open Source is recommended. This problem is predominately due to having a AlpineQuest Map File file version that was created by a newer version of Mobile Atlas Creator than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of AQM file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Regardless, most of the AQM file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Mobile Atlas Creator installed.
Other AQM File Opening Causes
Although you might already have Mobile Atlas Creator or another AQM-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening AlpineQuest Map File files. If you are still having problems opening AQM files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Other contributing causes:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for AQM
- Accidental deletion of the description of the AQM file in the Windows registry
- Mobile Atlas Creator or another AQM application experienced a flawed installation
- Something has caused file corruption of your AQM
- AQM file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Device drivers for AQM-related hardware are out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open AlpineQuest Map File files
