AUD Troubleshooting
Common Problems Opening AUD Files
Missing Command and Conquer
If you attempt to load your AUD file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open AUD Files". When this happens, it is commonly due to Command and Conquer missing in %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the AUD file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you don't have Command and Conquer installed, and you know of another program to open your AUD file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Incorrect Command and Conquer Version
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Command and Conquer installed that's incompatible with your Video Game Compressed Audio File type. If you've got the wrong version of Command and Conquer installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Your Video Game Compressed Audio File file was probably created by a newer release of Command and Conquer than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the AUD file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening AUD files are due to having the wrong version of Command and Conquer installed.
Other Causes of AUD File Opening Problems
Errors opening Video Game Compressed Audio File files can still occur even with the latest Command and Conquer software installed on your computer. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening AUDs. Problems unrelated to software:
- Windows Registry AUD file paths that are incorrect
- Deletion of the AUD file description from the Registry by mistake
- Invalid installation of a AUD-associated program (eg. Command and Conquer)
- Your AUD can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your AUD
- Drivers associated with AUD software need to be updated
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Video Game Compressed Audio File file
