Troubleshooting Problems Opening B8 Files

Common B8 Opening Problems

Missing IrfanView

You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open B8 Files" when trying to open your B8. Customarily, this means that IrfanView is not installed on %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.

Tip: If you have another software that you know opens B8 files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.

Outdated IrfanView

Sometimes your installed version of IrfanView won't support your Bitmap Picture File file. If you've got the wrong version of IrfanView installed, you'll need to install the correct version. The primary cause of this problem is that your Bitmap Picture File file was created by a different (newer) version of IrfanView than what's installed.

Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the B8 file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.

Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening B8 files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.

Other B8 File Issues

You can still experience errors opening B8 files even with the latest version of IrfanView installed on your PC. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening B8s. Additional factors include:

  • File references in the Windows Registry for B8 are wrong
  • Corruption of the B8 file description inside the Registry
  • IrfanView or another B8 application experienced a flawed installation
  • Your B8 can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
  • Malware-tainted B8 file can't be opened
  • Hardware related to B8s has device driver corruption
  • Windows has inadequate resources to open your Bitmap Picture File file
