Troubleshooting Problems Opening BFD Files
Frequent BFD Opening Issues
Linux Removed
When you double-click your BFD file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Customarily, this means that Linux is not installed on %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your BFD file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens BFD files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Linux is Out-of-Date
Your Linux BFD Rules Configuration Data file is incompatible with Linux because you might have the wrong version installed. Installing the latest version of Linux from Open Source is recommended. The primary cause of this problem is that your Linux BFD Rules Configuration Data file was created by a different (newer) version of Linux than what's installed.
Tip: Investigate your BFD file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Regardless, most of the BFD file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Linux installed.
Other BFD File Issues
Assuming you have the right Linux version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening BFD files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening BFD files. Other contributing causes:
- BFD file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- The BFD file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Partial installation of Linux that did not fully complete
- The BFD itself is corrupted
- Malware-tainted BFD file can't be opened
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your BFD file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Linux BFD Rules Configuration Data file successfully
