Sources of BHX Problems
Frequent BHX Opening Issues
Smith Micro StuffIt Deluxe Disappeared
If you attempt to load your BHX file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open BHX Files". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Smith Micro StuffIt Deluxe isn't installed on your PC. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the BHX file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your BHX, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Outdated Smith Micro StuffIt Deluxe
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Smith Micro StuffIt Deluxe installed that's incompatible with your BinHex Encoded File type. If you do not have the proper version Smith Micro StuffIt Deluxe (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This issue mainly occurs when your BinHex Encoded File file was created by a newer version of Smith Micro StuffIt Deluxe than you have on your PC.
Tip: If you right-click on your BHX file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening BHX files are due to having the incorrect version of Smith Micro StuffIt Deluxe installed on your computer.
Other BHX File Issues
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Smith Micro StuffIt Deluxe will resolve your issue. Other BHX opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Additional factors include:
- Invalid BHX file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Accidental deletion of the description of the BHX file in the Windows registry
- Smith Micro StuffIt Deluxe or another BHX application experienced a flawed installation
- The BHX itself is corrupted
- Malware-tainted BHX file can't be opened
- Hardware associated with BHX has outdated drivers
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your BinHex Encoded File file successfully
