CA Troubleshooting

Frequent CA Opening Issues

Unix is Not Installed

You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open CA Files" when trying to open your CA. Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Unix isn't installed on your PC. You won't be able to double-click to open your CA because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.

Tip: When another CA application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.

Unix is Out-of-Date

In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Initial Telnet Cache file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you do not have the proper version Unix (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This issue mainly occurs when your Initial Telnet Cache file was created by a newer version of Unix than you have on your PC.

Tip: Investigate your CA file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.

Primarily, problems experienced when opening CA files are due to having the incorrect version of Unix installed on your computer.

Other CA File Issues

Errors opening Initial Telnet Cache files can still occur even with the latest Unix software installed on your computer. If you are still having problems opening CA files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Problems unrelated to software:

  • Windows Registry CA file paths that are incorrect
  • Mistaken removal of the Windows registry CA description
  • Defective install of a CA program, such as Unix
  • File corruption affecting your CA file
  • Malware-tainted CA file can't be opened
  • Device drivers for CA-related hardware are out-of-date
  • Insufficient system resources to successfully open Initial Telnet Cache files
