Troubleshooting Problems Opening CCL Files

Typical CCL Opening Challenges

CCTools Isn't There

When trying to open your CCL file, you get the error "Can't Open CCL File Type". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because CCTools isn't installed on your PC. The typical path of opening your CCL with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.

Tip: Another CCL-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.

Wrong Version of CCTools is Installed

Sometimes your installed version of CCTools won't support your CCTools Levelset Data file. If you've got the wrong version of CCTools installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Most of the time your CCTools Levelset Data file was created by a newer CCTools than what you have installed.

Tip: Investigate your CCL file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.

Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening CCL files are due to having the wrong version of CCTools installed.

Other Causes of CCL File Opening Problems

You can still experience errors opening CCL files even with the latest version of CCTools installed on your PC. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening CCLs. Issues that aren't software-related:

  • Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for CCL
  • Accidental deletion of the description of the CCL file in the Windows registry
  • Corrupt install of CCTools or other CCL-related program
  • Your CCL file is corrupted (issues with your CCTools Levelset Data file itself)
  • Past or present virus infection has affected your CCL
  • Hardware related to CCLs has device driver corruption
  • Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the CCTools Levelset Data file
