CEL Troubleshooting
Typical CEL Opening Challenges
The MathWorks MATLAB Disappeared
You attempt to load your CEL file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The CEL File Extension". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because The MathWorks MATLAB isn't installed on your PC. You won't be able to double-click to open your CEL because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your CEL, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Outdated The MathWorks MATLAB
It is possible that your version of The MathWorks MATLAB isn't able to open your Affymetrix Probe Results File file due to incompatibility. Installing the latest version of The MathWorks MATLAB from MathWorks is recommended. Most of the time your Affymetrix Probe Results File file was created by a newer The MathWorks MATLAB than what you have installed.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your CEL file and clicking "Properties".
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening CEL files are due to having the wrong version of The MathWorks MATLAB installed.
Additional CEL Opening Issues
Errors opening Affymetrix Probe Results File files can still occur even with the latest The MathWorks MATLAB software installed on your computer. If you are still having problems opening CEL files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Other contributing causes:
- File references in the Windows Registry for CEL are wrong
- Corruption of the CEL file description inside the Registry
- Corrupt install of The MathWorks MATLAB or other CEL-related program
- Your CEL file is corrupted (issues with your Affymetrix Probe Results File file itself)
- Malware-tainted CEL file can't be opened
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your CEL file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Affymetrix Probe Results File file
